| Products are identified in the Inventory ledger by a Product Code
comprising up to 16 alphanumeric characters. Any character from the
printable ASCII character set including spaces, may be used in
Product Codes. In general avoiding the use of excessive punctuation
characters promotes keyboard efficiency. Each Product Code has an associated Stock Account record which records full details, prices, description, units, sizes etc about the individual product. The Product Code is the primary key used in sales, purchasing and many other processes which reference products for trade, manufacturing, estimating or a multiplicity of applications. |
| A fully detailed transaction history of debits and credits is maintained
for each and every Product Code where a debit represents an
increase in the stock level and value, and a credit represents a
decrease in the stock level and value at cost. This history is maintained for an indefinite time, and in practice most customers retain two or more years of full detail in their LILAC Inventory ledger to permit historical analysis of stock movements, purchasing and sales. |

| Individual Ledger Accounts for Each Product |
| Strong support is provided for "perpetual" stock take procedures using a Stock Take Zone concept which facilitates progressive revolving stock take based on geographic criteria. |

| LILAC provides for any number of alternate codes associated
with each product in the Inventory ledger. Common uses for alternate codes include bar-codes from multiple suppliers, OEM and manufacturers codes, drawing numbers versus part numbers etc. Products can ordered, sold stock take counted, and subjected to a variety of processing using any of these alternate codes as well as the "primary" product code. |
| Barcodes |
| The LILAC Inventory system supports a wide variety of
barcodes for a many different functions. Purchase, sales &
stock take, plus weight and date calculation and tracking. LILAC can print barcode labels for products in several different code formats, including full support for EAN-13 (retail operations), and EAN-128 for wholesale operations. LILAC can scan and decode all of these, and potentially any barcode encountered via a flexible barcode format specification facility. |
