services for computer networks of any size. Generally networks of more than three or so PC's will benefit from the use of the Microsoft Server product, especially when there is a mix of applications in addition to LILAC server operations. |
| Windows XP may be used as a suitable server operating
system in smaller networks. It is quite adequate in the
LILAC server role for quite large networks, but suffers from
an artificial restriction to a maximum of 10 computer
networks for Microsoft file-server activity. If you have 10 or less computers in your local network you can use XP as the server operating system to support an unlimited number of remote LILAC client workstations. Nevertheless, there is a trend to use the Windows Server product as the server operating system, to obtain the "Domain Controller" functionality which provides greater efficiency and less labour intensive management of network resources. |

undertake the system building and commissioning of
a server for your enterprise. We are happy to do this for networks with focused LILAC operations, a mix of other types of activity or for networks where there is no LILAC involvement for example CAD systems. |

employing the
Domain Controller
concept will also
need long-term
support services
provided by Lennox
Computer on a
monthly retainer
basis. A typical
monthly cost will be
about $200 for the
server computer and
$25 for each
workstation PC. The service includes domain management, service pack and security upgrades, software and driver installation, troubleshooting and diagnostic services. |
